Technical Tour #1 - Kansas City Streetcar: Design Installation and Operations

Meeting Location for attendees: 8:45 am at the Kansas City Convention Center - by Registration in Bartle Hall Lobby 2300 - Tour will depart Convention Center promptly at 9 am.

Take a walking tour and ride to learn about how the new streetcar public transportation system was designed, constructed and now serves downtown Kansas City residents and visitors alike. Join your local KC Post Ambassador at the Kansas City Convention Center at 9 am. We will walk a few short blocks to the local street car stop (14th and Main) and ride to the northern terminus of the line in City Market. Please wear close-toed shoes appropriate for walking!
Continental breakfast and talk presented by Christopher Kendel, Program Manager for the Kansas City Street Car Project, will take place at Tetra Tech Kansas City. Mr. Kendel will speak on design and construction challenges and successes of the project.  After breakfast, a short visit will be made to see the KCATA train maintenance yard with a presentation by the yard manager on the overall maintenance of the system.  A return ride on the street car will be made in time to join the Plenary Session of the conference.
 

Technical Tour #2 – Kauffman Center for Performing Arts:  Guided Design and Construction Tour

Guided tour that will take attendees through Architect Moshe Safdie’s Center for the Performing Arts which is home to the Kansas City Ballet, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and the Kansas City Symphony.  This tour will present a historic overview of its development, highlighting it’s A/E/C accomplishments.  In addition to information provided by the Center’s staff, members of the JE Dunn Construction team will discuss the design and construction challenges and overall successes of the project.  Please wear close-toed shoes appropriate for walking!

The Black & Veatch World Headquarters is equipped with a Microgrid power distribution system utilizing a variety of intelligent energy resources with the ability to optimally manage energy consumption and also electrically island from the local grid.  A guided tour of the Microgrid provides visitors an opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the key systems within the microgrid, as well as an interactive overview of the Microgrid via the energy management dashboard.  A Microgrid tour is a great opportunity for visitors to learn more about distributed energy resources such as solar PV, battery energy storage, microturbines, energy management, and how a Microgrid can provide value to its customers.  Microgrid tours are led by experienced Black & Veatch professionals who are available to answer technical questions our visitors may have.
